About Bansko

Banko Municipality is located in the most beautiful part of the magnificent Pirin Mountain, the Razlog Valley, the picturesque gorge of Momina Klisura of Mesta River and the Dubrashki part of the Rodopi Mountain.

Bansko is the main administrative and cultural-economic center of the municipality. It covers 49 621 hectares and encompasses the following: Bansko city, Dobrinishte and six villages: Mesta, Kremen, Obinim, Gostun, Philipovo and Osenovo.

Bansko – a magical symbiosis of history, tradition and culture. With everything that one could find there – old architecture, heroic history, authentic folklore, centuries old culture, preserved traditions and customs, unique cuisine, incredible humor and rich vocabulary – the mountain revival town is a recognized symbol of what is Bulgarian.


Bansko is located on 925m above sea level. Sofia is 150 km away, Plovdiv is 150 km away, Blagoevgrad is 60 km away and Gotse Delchev is 40 km away from Banko. It is best connected with them via the bus transport. The railway Dobrinishte – Septemvri passes through the municipality that also makes a connection with the railway Sofia - Plovdiv. A 12 km road has been built and well maintained that connects Bancko with hut ‘Vihren’ as well as a modern covered lift link the town with the high parts of the mountain and the ski zone.
